Overview
Learners following the Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science (0478) or the Cambridge O Level Computer Science (2210) syllabus develop their understanding of the main principles of problem solving using computers. They can apply their understanding to develop computer-based solutions to problems using algorithms and a high-level programming language. Learners also develop a range of technical skills, as well as being able to effectively test and evaluate computing solutions. Studying Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science or Cambridge O Level Computer Science will help learners appreciate current and emerging computing technologies, the benefits of their use, and recognise their potential risks.
Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science and Cambridge O Level Computer Science help learners develop an interest in computing and gain confidence in computational thinking. Both syllabi provide an ideal foundation for further study at Cambridge International AS and A Level, and the skills learnt can also be used in other areas of study and in everyday life.

Learning Objectives
The Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science and Cambridge O Level Computer Science syllabi enable students to:
  • Develop computational thinking, that is thinking about what can be computed and how, and includes consideration of the data required
  • Understand the main principles of solving problems by using computers
  • Understand that every computer system is made up of sub-systems, which in turn consist of further sub-systems
  • Develop an understanding of the component parts of computer systems and how they interrelate, including software, data, hardware, communications and people
  • Develop the skills necessary to apply their understanding to solve computer-based problems using a high-level programming language
